The Granger SBVA-300 (Super Bass Valve Amplifier, 300 watts) amplifier is a powerhouse, super-rich tone machine. It is inspired by the all-tube bass amps of the late 60's and early 70's, and completely wired by hand. It also has stunning looks, with a clear Plexiglas front baffle illuminated by CCFT lighting inside the chassis. The tone is punchy, thick, articulate, and heavy, just like a good bass amp should be. The circuit design was created by the late Ted A. Weber and borrows from the SVT and amps of that era, but with modern component reliability. Controls are simple - Presence, Master Volume, Treble, Midrange, Bass, and Volume (Gain). A 6-position Mid-shift control allows the use to select the frequency (from 100Hz to 2.2KHz) that is emphasized by the Midrange control. The preamp section consists of one ECC83S valve, one ECC81S valve, and one EL34, that can also be slightly overdriven to produce those "grinding, mean" sounds that were predominant on albums by Led Zeppelin, Cream, and The Who, just to name a few. Power is rectified by robust UF5408 diodes to produce a punchy, tight powerful tone. The power section runs on six KT88 valves which produces 300+ watts. A tube buffered effect loop is standard, as is the XLR direct out with level adjust, tuner output, pull mute on the volume control, and high and low impedance inputs. The output section has individual speaker jacks - (2) two ohm, (2) four ohm, and (1) eight ohm - for running multiple cabinets. Externally accessible bias adjustments (6) for each KT88 valve with an LCD display (that reads both bias current and plate voltage) allows the user to bias the amp when replacing valves without removing the chassis. A cooling fan is mounted in the rear grill, with a high/low switch to change fan speed.
